M.O.T

A car registered for use on a public road in the EC must pass a mechanical and emissions test. This is known in the UK as the "MOT", which is named after the old Ministry of Transport.

Vehicle MOT Testing

Cars in the UK must be tested once they are three years old, and every year thereafter. The purpose of this test is to ensure the road worthiness of a car. This test consists of the following testing:

· Registration plates and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
· Steering
· Horn
· Lights
· Bonnet Catch
· Doors
· Vehicle Structure
· Seats
· Brakes
· Windscreen
· Mirrors
· Suspension
· Seat Belts
· Exhaust System and Emissions
· Fuel System
· Tyres and Roadwheels

Charges: £50 for CLASS 4 (cars & light commercial)  tests

and £25 for class 1 & 2 (motorbike) tests

Retests free if we carry out repairs. (If you have repairs elsewhere, there will be a £20 re test fee within 10 Days

AFTER 10 DAYS THERE WILL BE A FULL CHARGE  FOR A RE-TEST

Duplicate Certificates

These are available at £10

Facts about MOT's:

Did you know that you can have your test done within 30 days of the expiry date? If the car passes, your MOT is valid for up to 13 months.

If it fails, you have longer to arrange the repairs!

Brakes

There are many brake items to be checked at the MOT, e.g. leakage of air from the brake pipes, condition of brake hoses and system efficiency.

However, we are not allowed to dismantle any components at the time of the test. It is therefore possible for discs and pads to be seriously worn, or for other defects to be present which cannot be seen by the tester.

It is very important to realise, therefore, that the braking system could pass the MOT test and yet still be in a dangerous condition.

The solution is to have your brakes fully inspected at appropriate times depending on the mileage covered by the vehicle.
